The Mailbag returns!

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — This has nothing to do with the Giants but everything to do with Giants fans, at least those who read sfgiants.com.

Dozens of you expressed disappointment when the Mailbag was discontinued. Mourn no longer. It shall return, except now it’ll be called the “Inbox.”

I have a few e-mails in my queue — er, inbox — which I’ll use in the next day or so to try to cobble together a reintroductory entry. Typically with the Mailbag, I’d select eight to 12 e-mails out of about 150-200. I’m hopeful that many of you will resume writing once that first Inbox (which comes with the form for e-mailing me) appears. Of course, feel free to contact me sooner.

Chris,

Wondering where we can see a list of players that would be out of minor league options. I heard Ishikawa is out of options, but how would I look up the rest of them.

As a life long Giants fan I want to thank you for keeping us up-to-date on the latest Giants news./happenings. You can be assured this will be one of my regular bookmarks. Can wait for the season to begin.

I would like to see who else is out of options too, particularly Velez. If there is a place to get this info, that would be great.

I know that in addition to Ishikawa, Schierholtz and Valdez are also out of options, and Frandsen is also probably out of options as well. Bowker and Burriss should still have two options, burning one of them this year if they are sent down. Sadler should have two options too.

Lowry apparently has one more option that probably will be used this year unless he’s on the DL for the season again. Misch should have one more option that would be burned this season.

I’m curious how Gillaspie’s options work. I am assuming that they did not burn one for 2008, meaning he has 3 options left to burn in 2009, 10, 11, meaning he’s up to stay for good in 2012 or waived.

I also wonder what happened with Horwitz, I thought he did well plus was showing power, was his fielding that bad?
And even if it was, why not trade him to an AL team where he can DH?

Lastly, I forget what the rules are about prospects and the 40 man roster, after how many years must the Giants place a prospect on the 40 man or risk losing him, I recall 4 years. Is that why Horwitz and Denker were dropped so suddenly, that they determined that they were not keepers? What was the word on Denker, lots of Giants fans, including me, liked him as a prospect?

Also, I wonder what EME’s situation is, he should be past this rule by now, was he waived and unclaimed? I know he was available in the Rule 5 draft.

I’ve got to say, I became a believer toward the end of the season as soon as the Giants acquired Cody Ross from the Marlins. I had just recently moved to Miami, FL for work and went to one of the Giants/Marlins games. Although the ballpark was nearly empty, everyone there was a huge fan of Cody. I became one as well when he tossed a ball to the fans in center field after warmups and I caught it (sporting my Giants jersey of course). When the Giants picked him up, I knew it was meant to be. Cody belongs in SF, and I hope the Giants keep him! That baseball is worth so much more to me now…
